  • Nextbus, Inc. v. City of Ames, Iowa District Court for Story County, Case No. EQCV048579 (2014).  Successfully obtained a judgment in favor of company contracting with the City of Ames declaring certain company information submitted to the City of Ames was confidential under Iowa’s Open Records Act.
  • The Samuels Group, Inc. v. Guilford Building Systems, LLC, et al., Case No. 3:12-cv-00101 JAJ (S.D. IA May 29, 2014).  On behalf of subcontractor, obtained dismissal of claim filed by general contractor seeking a declaration of rights under Iowa Code chapter 573 arising out of the construction of the University of Iowa Indoor Practice Facility.
  • Rachel Clay v. Credit Bureau Enterprises, Inc. 754 F.3d 535 (8th Cir. 2014). Obtained summary judgment for employer dismissing claims of former employee alleging race discrimination.
  • Cutrina Daniels f/k/a Shaw, Latoya Veasley, and Marilyn Woods v. Credit Bureau Enterprises, Inc., Iowa District Court for Black Hawk County, Case No. LACV115468 (2013). Successfully resisted the certification of a class action in an employment discrimination case.
  • Iowa Primate Learning Sanctuary v. Zoo Atlanta, et al., United Stated District Court for the Northern District of Iowa, Case No. 4:10cv00052 (2012). Negotiated settlement for the Iowa Great Ape Trust in a lawsuit over ownership and custody of two bonobo apes.
  • Press-Citizen Company, Inc. v. University of Iowa, 817 N.W.2d 480 (Iowa 2012). Representing newspaper, obtained order requiring the University of Iowa to release records under Iowa’s Open Records Act and an award of attorney’s fees.
  • Diamond Game Enterprises, Inc. v. The Iowa Lottery Authority and the State of Iowa, et al., Supreme Court of Iowa, Case 08-1419 (2009). Obtained six-figure settlement for manufacturer of TouchPlay machines in breach of contract suit against the State of Iowa.
  • Christopher Anumaso v. NCS Pearson, Inc., Iowa District Court for Johnson County, Case No. LACV 064088 (2008). Obtained defense verdict after three-day jury trial defending tort claims brought by former employee.
  • Custom Crafted Homes v. Benjamin J. Abraham and Melissa J. Abraham, Iowa District Court for Johnson County, Case No. LACV 065760 (2008). Obtained judgment after five day trial in the amount of $260,000 in favor of home builder against property owners.
  • Press-Citizen Company, Inc. v. Iowa Board of Regents, Iowa District Court for Polk County, Case No. CVCV 6443 (2007). Representing newspaper, negotiated consent decree to resolve open meetings lawsuit against the Iowa Board of Regents in which the board admitted violations of the law and agreed to pay newspaper’s attorney’s fees.
  • David Bell and Patricia Bell v. The City of Dyersville, Iowa, Charles Bruggeman d/b/a Bruggeman Design Group, and K&K Building Supply, Inc., Iowa District Court for Dubuque County, Case No. LACV 053165 (2005). Obtained favorable outcome for designer in multi-party jury trial brought by building owners.
  • Midwest Oilseeds, Inc. v. Limagrain Genetics Corp. 387 F.3d 705 (8th Cir. 2004). With co-counsel, obtained jury verdict of $41 million dollars on breach of contract claim relating to illegal breeding by defendant with client’s soybean genetics.
  • Jim Sattler Construction Co., Inc. v. Adam B. Kanis, Iowa District Court for Washington County, Case No. LA 1326 (2003). Obtained jury verdict and judgment of $310,000 in favor of home builder against property owners.
  • Stine Seed Co. v. Marvin Mitchell, Iowa District Court for Dallas County, Case No. LACV 3053 (2002). Obtained judgment in excess of $322,000 on behalf of seed company following two-day trial.
