Are there positions for summer associates?
Summer associates are a valuable source of new associates for the firm. We view our summer associate program as more than just a continuation of the legal research done at law school. We strive to allow our summer associates to work in a variety of areas of practice to acquaint them with all aspects of the firm’s full range of services and our client base. We carefully evaluate the work of each summer associate with a view toward potential employment as an associate of the firm.
- “I was a law clerk with the firm during the summer of 1983. The firm was less than 2 years old and had about 7 or 8 lawyers at the time. Throughout the summer I had the chance to work with most every attorney, and got to know them personally through lunches and social gatherings. I remember thinking that the lawyers had broad experience and expertise in different areas of the law, and that the firm seemed poised for growth over the next several years. Little did I know that over the next 20 years or so, the firm would quadruple in size, with offices in both Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. I think the firm’s growth can be attributed to our philosophy- which has always been to treat clients as ‘firm clients.’ I believe this promotes the development of specialties by individual lawyers, and also provides the clients better service. This philosophy is ultimately what led me to join Bradley & Riley when I graduated from law school, and has kept me here ever since.” – Joseph Schmall, Shareholder and Past President of the Firm
